Am I entitled to past-due benefits?

This is a really interesting question, because I found that some clients are really frustrated with how long it can take to go through the application and appeal process, because they believe at the end of the day, they're only going to be allowed to collect benefits from the time they're approved moving forward. However, the reality is that yes, you are entitled to receive back due or past due benefits going back to your application. In fact in some instances, a little bit earlier, if you're approved for benefits. In other words, social security will pay you for the time during your application and appeal period where they were not paying you, but they should have been.
