Can social media impact a claim for long-term disability insurance benefits?

Social media definitely can have an impact on a long-term disability claim. In many claim files that I've reviewed, there are printouts from the claimant's Facebook pages, Twitter pages, LinkedIn pages, where the insurance company has not only looked into it, but they've printed out their Facebook profiles and their posts and made it part of the claims record. And in some instances they'll even cite to postings from the claimant's profile where they show that the claimant was perhaps more active than may have otherwise been indicated in their application for benefits.

So, there's no question that they will be looking at your social media presence.
