When your long term disability insurance claim is denied or if your benefits have been cut off, you typically have 180 days to file an appeal. Although our office can prepare an appeal in a matter of days, it more typically takes several months to prepare an effective appeal that has a good chance of winning. A typical appeal letter when a claim has been denied or terminated reads something like "I am appealing your denial letter. I don't think you've considered all of the evidence correctly. Please review the file again. I think you'll understand why I should be receiving benefits." Unfortunately, this type of appeal letter is not very effective and is unlikely to get the long term disability insurance company to reverse course and approve an LTD claim.
