Long term disability insurance coverage may be offered for virtually any occupation – from unskilled labor workers to highly-skilled professional occupations such as doctors and lawyers.

The specific occupation of an LTD claimant is primarily an issue during the “own occupation” (“own occ” for short) period of a long term disability insurance policy. The “own occ” period is relevant for highly skilled occupations because the claimant must demonstrate that he or she cannot perform the material duties of his or her primary occupation.
